Christ Church Needs You ....

Afternoons in the Garden

The Way Ahead Group is holding three Afternoons in the Garden for local children this summer. The dates are Saturdays 17 and 24 July, and Sunday 8 August, from 2.30 to 5 each time.
Entertainment is planned, including face painting and visits from a wizard and a clown, and there will be tea available throughout the afternoon. Leaflets with details will be available soon.
Please tell your friends and neighbours!
We need your help, either on one of these afternoons or to bake a cake or small buns for our visitors. If you can help in any way, please contact Joan van Emden, Jean Tinker, Claire Newbold or Christopher Hampson.

Thank you!

As a community Christ Church relies on the goodwill of its members. There are many opportunities to contribute your skills and talents as a small part of a bigger picture. Please consider your own ministry among us.
We are currently looking for volunteers in the following areas:

Brass Cleaning
We are always looking for new brass cleaning volunteers. Keeping our brass looking so splendid involves about 1 hour every 6 weeks. Please contact the office or Gloria if you would like to help.

Vergers
Our team of Vergers is always keen to welcome new volunteers who can work in partnership with the Minister partricularly at weddings, funerals and baptisms in giving guidance to members of the public at these events. Training can be given.
If you are interested in helping, please speak to Chris.

Social Events
Christ Church Social Committee have a few meetings a year, to discuss forthcoming events and plan any ideas we may have. Although we are not solely to do with catering, we do help out at major church events, but we also like to plan some of our own. We are keen to recruit new members and would particularly like to see some
younger members join us, for new and fresh ideas.
If you are interested, please speak to Yvonne,Sue, Monica or Rosemary.

News from New Christ Church School

As many of you will be aware, our school was inspected by Ofsted last term and we were graded as being a ‘good school’ with many outstanding features. Following this, we were also inspected as a Church School, the result of which was ‘outstanding’ in all aspects. We were particularly pleased that the links which exist between school and parish were noted as being strengths of the school; the report reads:

There are outstanding links between school and parish. The incumbent plays a vital role in this as pastor as well as worship leader. A growing number of pupils are attending family services and each year brings more confirmation candidates from the school. Staff speak of their own spiritual growth helped by the worship, the incumbent, and by being part of the supportive community.

I have made copies of both reports which will hopefully be displayed on the noticeboard soon, otherwise they can be found on our website:
www.newchristchurchprimaryschool.org.uk.

Thank you so much to all of you who support the school in so many different ways and for making our children, families and staff so welcome – we really do appreciate it and are looking forward to working with you further in the future.

Maria

Fair Trade

Christ
church has been a Fair Trade Church for a number of years and this involves several commitments such as using fairly traded tea and coffee for all our meetings, and promoting the sale of other fairly traded products whenever possible. The range of goods available has increased enormously from the early days of jute coasters and wooden tea caddies into a vast and colourful array of products from all over the world. From Argentina to Zambia; from jewellery to coffee via glassware, Christmas tree shaped chocolate biscuits and pots from Vietnam made from recycled magazines, there is now something for every occasion. This means that Fair Trade is no longer a marginal activity but can be very central in everyday life. Even if you don't use tea, coffee, sugar, chocolate, rice, pasta, biscuits or writing paper:even if you don't send Christmas cards or buy presents or feel the need of earrings: every single one of these products has a story behind it, a real person whose life has been changed for the better because of the fair price and the fair conditions under which these products are sold . Celia has a sink becuase of the honey from Chile. Joyce has a well because of the sugar from Malawi. Rabson goes to school because of the cocoa from Ghana.

Fair Trade changes lives.

Pam Thompson brings a stall from Traidcraft, a leading retailer of Fair Trade goods, to a Sunday service at Christ
church about three times a year, and also on other special events such as activity days. Look out for her at Christ church!
